What is NSF®?

NSF® International is a non-profit organization that is a world leader for the development of standards and certifications and risk assessment for public health and safety concerns. NSF began 60 years ago, with a focus on food, water, indoor air and environment, developing national standards and providing public health education and third party conformity assessment services. As part of the NSF Standard 61 certification, a NSF representative audits certified manufacturers annually to insure compliance with Standard 61 procedures and constraints.

Where are these NSF® Standard 61 certified products used?

Most of the FRP industry is familiar with NSF due to the NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Drinking Water Systems Components - Health Effects. This is the nationally recognized health effects standard for all devices, components and materials which contact drinking water. This standard is being included in most specifications for water and waste water plants and process equipment. The certification is also becoming more prevalent in specifications for the cooling tower and food and beverage industries.
